Proton 3D Ultra Compact Camera at NAB 2026

(Special to the USTimes, Garbsen, Germany, 2026-03-31) Proton Camera Innovations GmbH is showcasing its miniature camera ecosystem at the 2026 NAB Show (Booth C.4740). Proton’s ultra-compact form allows traditional sports broadcasters to explore stereoscopic 3D cinematography.

Demoing the PROTON FLEX and 4K FLEX cameras and their 3D capability, Proton will showcase the new creative avenues their cameras can help employ. Already known for their use in tight spaces, the miniaturization of Proton’s cameras is used in live sports. They deliver a broadcast-grade view while mounted on drones to rally cars, helmets and goal posts, or even tennis nets.

Their 3D application is currently being used on a project tightly under wraps, but said to involve one of the most significant directors of the 21st Century. Proton’s involvement reinforces the rising desire for a synchronizable camera system that can deliver stereoscopic depth in cinema.

Here’s how it works: when two PROTON Flex or two PROTON 4K Flex units with a CCU, Proton achieves frame-accurate synchronization between both sensors at every frame. Because it is lightweight and small in size, they can be mounted side by side or in a mirrored arrangement, better approximating the distance between human eyes. This makes the 3D more accurately replicate human depth perception, and can not be achieved with standard-sized broadcast cameras.

PROTON’s Flex cameras also streamline a user’s 3D workflow. Adjustments from the master for exposure or color shading automatically are perpetuated throughout the rig, and power delivery is consolidated.

Speaking for Proton Camera Innovations, CEO Marko Hoepken said, “When we developed the Flex architecture, we knew the ability to separate lens from body would open creative doors. But even we didn’t anticipate that it would become the foundation for a 3D ecosystem being adopted by one of the most ambitious film productions in years. The fact that two Flex cameras can share a single CCU – synchronizing at the frame level, sharing color metadata, drawing from one power source – shows again how technological innovation drives creativity just as much as creativity drives technical innovation”.

Also on display at their booth will be the smallest broadcast camera on the market: the PROTON CAM. As well as the PROTON 4K, zoom integrated PROTON Zoom, the weather sealed PROTON Rain, and the new PROTON PRO with its integrated global shutter and professional connectivity.
