NAB 2016: OWC Showcases Jupiter Archive and Storage Solutions

In today’s work world, storage and archiving are the bane of our existence. Enterprise level solutions abound, but we had the chance to examine The Jupiter Callisto from Other World Computing during the recent NAB and wanted to share our findings with you. You might also like our correspondent, Suzanne LaChasse’s brief interview with Jupiter’s Chris Haeffner in the OWC booth at the recent NAB 2016.

Jupiter solutions are designed to act as both a NAS (network attached storage) and a SAN (storage area network) simultaneously, “for the most advanced level of versatility and flexibility offered in a storage solution.”

Blazing fast Ethernet speeds up to 10Gb/s and advanced data protection and optimization via Callisto’s ZFS-based storage architecture lend strength and security.

The OWC Jupiter Callisto, features 8 or 16 drive bays and up to 128TB of centralized storage. But users can connect up to three Jupiter Kore SAS expansion units to their Callisto and upgrade to 512TB. Add an external SAS switch and limitations on speed and power disappear.
We are flashing (no pun intended) back on our former purchase of an X-Serve-RAID that weighed 100 lbs and had the capacity of a whopping 7TB! The Jupiter is not your mother’s old-fashioned RAID.
